Silver Rail Children's Fund

also known as Silver Rail Kids Fun Fund

About Silver Rail Children's Fund

An independent, all-volunteer Oregon nonprofit started and run by Silver Rail Elementary parents after the October 15, 2026 shooting. The fund supports every child who was in the building that day (plus their siblings and the children of adults who were there) with what they need to heal and feel like kids again: activities, classes, outings, play, counseling, and therapy. Support follows each child wherever they go to school, until their 25th birthday. The fund pays businesses and providers directly and never gives cash to families. Individual requests are approved by an independent Disbursement Committee with no Silver Rail parents on it, every payment needs two officer signatures, and a public ledger is posted monthly. Its first program is the Silver Rail Kids Fun Fund. Local businesses can take part through "Sponsor a Silver Rail kid," where customers add a few dollars at the register and the fund pays the business for what Silver Rail kids use. Incorporated October 23, 2026; 501(c)(3) application in progress.

Volunteering looks like

Committee-based volunteering: fundraising and grant leads, recruiting business sponsors, lining up arts and enrichment providers, trauma-informed care advising, event planning and chaperoning, helping families with crime victims' compensation forms, bookkeeping and finance, communications (writing, design, photo/video, social), family support, and governance/legal. Pro bono professionals especially needed. Kid-facing roles require a background check and two free online trauma trainings.
