Externally-Assigned Codes

The two fields below are not classification systems Connect Central Oregon created or asks organizations to self-report. They're standard federal codes — already on file with the government either way, nonprofit or for-profit — that CCO looks up from public records. Because they're not self-reported, there's no list of options to choose from here; if an organization's code looks wrong, email it in and CCO will verify it against the official record.

NTEE Code

The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities code the IRS assigns to every nonprofit that files a Form 990, describing what kind of work the organization does. Shown on the card next to the organization’s tax status, along with a plain-language description of the code.

NAICS Code

The North American Industry Classification System code, the standard federal classification for any organization — nonprofit or for-profit — based on its primary activity.
