also known as FSPSL; Santiam Lodge
About Friends of Santiam Pass Ski Lodge
A volunteer-driven nonprofit restoring the historic Santiam Pass Ski Lodge, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939–40 at the 4,800-foot level of Santiam Pass on Highway 20, about 20 miles west of Sisters. Closed since 1986 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, the lodge is one of six CCC-designed lodges in the Pacific Northwest. Working under a Forest Service special-use permit and funded largely by grants, the Friends are bringing it back as an all-season public community center: a free traveler rest stop and information area with ADA facilities, a warming shelter for skiers and hikers, a home for history and educational programs, and a rentable venue, with a small café and gift shop to support upkeep. The lodge remains publicly owned and administered by the U.S. Forest Service.
Volunteering looks like
Restoration is a community effort. Volunteer work days cover cleaning, clearing, and general site work at the lodge, and skilled tradespeople are especially needed: carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, painters, and wood refinishers. Volunteer crews and groups have also helped with restoration work. Sign up through the contact page to be invited to upcoming volunteer days, or share photos and stories of the lodge's history.
