About Compassionate Canines of Central Oregon
Compassionate Canines of Central Oregon is an all-volunteer group, founded in 2001, that brings registered therapy dog teams into hospitals, schools, special needs centers, and nursing homes across the region. It matches teams with places that want visits, and offers education and networking for handlers. There are no membership fees or meetings.
Volunteering looks like
Handlers and their dogs visit hospitals, schools, special needs centers, and care facilities as therapy dog teams. Teams first register through Alliance of Therapy Dogs or Pet Partners, which test the team and set requirements such as a dog at least a year old that has lived with its handler for six months. Compassionate Canines then connects registered teams with visit opportunities and events.
