About Central Oregon Suicide Prevention Alliance
The Central Oregon Suicide Prevention Alliance (COSPA) was formed in 2012 by public and private organizations in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson Counties to promote wellness and prevent suicide across the region. Its partners include the county health departments, local school districts and police departments, YouthLine/Lines for Life, Mosaic Medical, and OSU-Cascades. COSPA offers suicide prevention trainings for individuals and organizations, a local provider directory, and support for people affected by suicide, and runs S.A.F.E. (Secure Ammo & Firearms Effectively), which works with firearm owners and their families on secure storage and has distributed more than 1,700 lockboxes across the three counties since 2024.
Volunteering looks like
Joining one of the Alliance's workgroups (community outreach, parenting resources, primary care, postvention support for people affected by suicide, and leadership), helping with community outreach and events such as Suicide Prevention Month, and sharing secure firearm storage education through S.A.F.E. Suicide prevention trainings are offered for individuals and for organizations that request one.
